Effect of Electronic Thermostat on Fuel Consumption with Fuzzy PID

Abstract

Aiming at the problem that the traditional internal combustion engine water temperature control system could not accurately, quickly and steadily adjust the engine water temperature, a fuzzy controller was designed in Simulink environment, and a simulation model of cooling water system based on fuzzy proportion integration and derivation ( PID) control was established. The simulation and experiment results indicate that the fuzzy PID control system is better than the traditional PID control, which can reduce the water temperature overshoot and the system control time. The electronic thermostat controlled by fuzzy PID can improve the water temperature and effectively control the working water temperature of the engine. The fan opening time is reduced. Engine water temperature rising can reduce the fuel consumption of the engine. In the new European driving cycle ( NEDC) , electronic thermostat fuel saving efficiency is 0. 7%. Under low-speed and small load steady-state conditions, its fuel saving efficiency is up to 4. 7%.
