Effect of Relative Humidity on Triboelectric Wear of Copper
Journal Title: 河南科技大学学报(自然科学版) - Year 2018, Vol 39, Issue 1
Abstract
By the single point contact triboelectric wear tester equipped with an atmosphere chamber, the effects of relative humidity on the triboelectric wear of Cu were investigated under sliding electric contact. The results suggest that the wear mechanism is affected by the coeffects of current and relative humidity. The degree of oxidation of Cu wear surface is improved with the increase of relative humidity and the intervention of current. When relative humidity is 10%, 60% and 92%, respectively, the wear depth decreases 0.628 μm, 0.672 μm and 2.187 μm after loading 10 A current on the sliding pairs. When relative humidity is 10%, severe adhesive wear occurrs on the Cu surface and still exists with the increasing of current. While the relative humidity is92%, the adhesive wear is retarded with the increase of current.Without current, the increase of relative humidity contributes to the friction and chemical oxidation of the material, but it does not significantly improve adhesion wear.Electrochemical oxidation is helpful to form the oxide film during the current passing, so that adhesive wear is reduced.
