Effect of hydric stress induced by PEG 6000 on water content of Musa spp. ‘Grande naine’ (AAA) and ‘Pelipita’ (ABB) in vitro plants
Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2015, Vol 15, Issue 4
Abstract
Bananas and bananas are grown in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, by hence they are adapted to good humidity conditions. The productivity of these crops is affected by abiotic factors such as drought, which has increased in recent years due to the effects of climate change. In vitro selection of tolerant genotypes offers advantages over field selection as it saves time, resources and permit to work with larger plant volumes. The aim of this work was to determine the effect of in vitro water stress induced with polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG 6000) on water content (WC) of Musa spp. ‘Grande naine’ (AAA) and ‘Pelipita’ (ABB) cultivars. In ‘Pelipita’ cultivar WC was not affected by PEG 6000 effect, but in ‘Grande naine’ this trait was significantly reduced in those plants under stress. Both, ‘Pelipita’ and ‘Grande naine’ cultivars differentially respond to water stress induced in vitro by PEG 6000 and could be used as reference in plants evaluation obtained by plant breeding for drought tolerance.

Effect of inoculation density on maturation of somatic embryos of plantain cv. ‘FHIA-21’ (Musa AAAB)
The establishment of conditions of culture is essential to regulate of efficient way the regeneration of plantain plants cv. ‘FHIA-21’ by somatic embryogenesis. It is for that reason that this investigation had like obj...
Total polyphenol content in callus of Theobroma cacao L. ‘UF-650’ clone
Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is of great interest as a source of compounds of natural origin, and polyphenols are those with the highest bioactivity. The objective of this work was to determine the total polyphenol content...
Somatic embryo differentiation and germination of Coffea arabica L. cv. Catimor 9722 obtained in an orbital shaker
The present work had as objectives to study the effect of four inoculation densities on the process of differentiation of embryogenic cell suspensions of Coffea arabica cv. Catimor 9722 and to evaluate the effect of two...
In vitro establishment and multiplication of Curcuma longa L.
Turmeric is a very valuable plant as condiment, dye and due to its medicinal properties. Although results achieved in the in vitro propagation, rates of in vitro establishment and multiplication are low. The aim of this...
In vitro conservation at short-term of shoot tips in vitro plants from the hybrid papaya IBP 42-99
The development of techniques for in vitro culture of vegetable tissues brought about new alternatives for the conservation from germplasm of papaya (Carica papaya Lineo). These work was carried out with objective of d...
