EFFECTIVENESS OF DYE RB5 ADSORPTION ONTO CHITIN AND CHITOSAN UNDER STATIC AND DYNAMIC CONDITIONS
Journal Title: Progress on Chemistry and Application of Chitin and its Derivatives - Year 2009, Vol 0, Issue
Abstract
Analyses were carried out for adsorption of a reactive dye RB5 onto chitin and chitosan under static and dynamic conditions in an air-lift reactor. Assays were conducted for the effect of the type of sorbent and its content in the reactor on adsorption capacity of sorbents examined. The sorbent’s concentration under static conditions and in the reactor reached 5 mg d.m./dm3. In all experimental series, the flow rate of dye inflowing to the reactor was constant and reached 1V/h (where V-reactor’s volume) and concentration of dye discharged to the reactor accounted for 100 mg/dm3. The solution’s reaction reached pH = 3.0 for chitin and pH = 5.0 Investigations demonstrated that running the adsorption process in an air-lift reactor under dynamic conditions had a beneficial effect on the amount of dye adsorbed both onto chitin and chitosan. In the case of chitin, the application of the air-lift reactor affect an increase in the quantity of dye adsorbed by 18%, whereas the quantity of dye adsorbed onto chitosan under dynamic conditions increased by 8%.

CHEMICAL MODIFICATION OF CHITOSAN WITH FATTY ACIDS
This paper presents the results of chitosan modification with fatty acids, namely linoleic and oleic acid. We used carbodiimide as the initiator for the reaction of carboxyl and aminoglycoside functional groups. The anal...
PHARMACEUTICAL ASSESSMENT OF THERMOSENSITIVE HYDROPHILIC GELS WITH POLYVINYL PYRROLIDONE K-30 CONTAINING LACTIC ACID COMPLEXED WITH CHITOSAN
Gels containing lactic acid complexed with chitosan at a stoichiometric ration 1:1 and 2:1 and 5 - 25% content of polyoxyethylene glycol 200 are able to move from 25 to 30 cm. Measurements performed in a biopharmaceutica...
ASSESSMENT OF PHARMACEUTICAL PROPERTIES OF THERMOSENSITIVE GYNECOLOGICAL POWDERS CONTAINING LACTIC ACID COMPLEXED WITH CHITOSAN
pH of gels ranged from 3.92 to 4.44 for gels 1:1 and from 2.36 to 2.84 for 8:1 ratio. The addition of 20%, 23% or 25% poloxamer 407 increases the pH ranged from 4.00 to 4.91 for gels with 1:1 ratio and from 2.56 to 3.42...
INFLUENCE OF A POLYVINYL ALKOHOL AND DEXTRANE ON THE PROPERTIES OF HYDROPHILIC GELS CONTAINING LACTIC ACID COMPLEX WITH CHITOSAN
The investigated preparations on methylcellulose base revealed good adhesion to the vaginal mucosa and were present on it throughout the daily activities of the patient. This property enabled the continuity of 24-hour ac...
EVALUATION OF PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF SOLID DISPERSIONS OF BCS CLASS II SUBSTANCES WITH CHITOSAN
The BCS class II includes drugs with low solubility and high permeability. The substances require modification to increase their solubility in the upper part of the digestive system. Fenofibrate is an example of this cla...
