Effects of altitude on essential oil composition of Stachys inflata Benth

Journal Title: International Journal of Farming and Allied Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 3, Issue 1

Abstract

The essential oils from the aerial parts of Stachys inflata (Lamiaceae), collected at different altitudes in Fars province, in flowering stage, were obtained by hydro-distillation. The chemical components of the essential oils were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. In low altitudes, Ghalat ( m) germacrene-d ( ), bicyclogermacrene ( ), spathulenol ( ), δ-cadinene ( ) and – αcopaene ( ) were major components. In Ab-Mordi ( m), germacrene-d ( ), spathulenol ( ) and bicyclogermacrene ( . ) represented as main compositions. In highaltitudes In Cheshme-Anjir ( ), germacrene-d ( ), bicyclogermacrene ( ), phytol ( ) and spathulenol ( ) were the main constituents. In highaltitudes, Derak ( m) n-hexadecanoic acid ( ), germacrene-d ( ), spathulenol ( ), eudesma- ( ) -dine- -β-ol ( ) and α-cadinol ( ) were the main constituents. It was found that the chemical composition of S. inflata essential oil depends on the altitude of the growing plants.
