Effects of bacitracin methylene disalicylate on the growth performance and blood biochemical indexes of Magang goose under heat stress

Journal Title: 广东农业科学 - Year 2018, Vol 45, Issue 7

Abstract

The experiment aimed to study the effects of bacitracin methylene disalicylate (BMD) supplementation on growth performance and serum biochemical indices of Magang goose under heat stress. Total of 160 45-day-old Magang geese were randomized into control group and experimental group, with 4 replicates per group and 20 geese in each replicate. Geese in control group were fed with basal diet, while geese in experimental group were fed with basal diet supplemented with 100 mg/kg of BMD. The experiment lasted for 20 d, and the temperature was 30-35℃ during the study. The results showed that daily weight gain (DWG) and daily feed intake (DFI) of experimental group were significantly higher than those of control group. The ratio of DFI to DWG of experimental group was significantly lower than that of control group The leg muscle rate and breast muscle rate were notably higher in experimental group than those in control group. The percentage of abdominal fat was notably lower in experimental group than that in control group. There was no significant treatment effects on carcass rate, eviscerated rate and semi-eviscerated rate between experimental group and control group. The activities of serum LDH, GOT, GPT, AKP and contents of serum MDA and BUN in experimental group were significantly lower than those in control group. The activities of serum SOD, T-AOC and concentrations of serum TP, T3 and T4 of experimental group were significantly higher than those in control group. There was no treatment effect on the activity of GSH-PX between experimental group and control group. The results demonstrated that supplementation of BMD 100 mg/kg in the diet could improve the serum biochemical indices and slaughter performances of geese under heat stress, also increase feed intake, feed conversion rate and promoted growth performance.
