Effects of two substrates on leaf nutrients and chlorophyll fluorescence characteristics of indoor vertical greening plants

Journal Title: 广东农业科学 - Year 2018, Vol 45, Issue 7

Abstract

Vertical greening not only improves the vegetation coverage rate and urban green volume, enriches the urban landscape level, but also enhances the building ecological environment. Leaf nutrient content, specific leaf weight, leaf SPAD value and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of Epipremnum aureum ‘Jade’, E. aureum ‘Golden Pothos’ and Dracaena deremensis ‘Compacta’ grown in mixed and sponge substrates were studied. The results showed that there were significant differences in leaf nutrients, specific leaf weight, leaf SPAD values and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of plants in indoor environment due to characteristics of different culture medium. In the mixed substrate, the leaf N contents, SPAD values, Fv /Fm, Y(Ⅱ), ETR and NPQ of the three plant species were significantly higher than those in sponge substrate. The leaf P and K contents and the SLW of E. aureum ‘Jade’ and E. aureum ‘Golden Pothos’ grown in the mixed substrate were significantly higher than those in the sponge substrate. However, the leaf Ca and Mg contents of the three plant species grown in the mixed substrate were significantly lower than those in the sponge substrate. The leaf N content and SPAD values of the three plant species grown in the mixed substrate showed very significantly positive correlations with Fv /Fm, Y(Ⅱ), ETR and NPQ. In the sponge substrate, there was a very significantly positive correlation between the leaf N content, Fv /Fm, Y (Ⅱ) and ETR, and a significantly positive correlation between SPAD values with Y(Ⅱ). According to the principal component analysis of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, three plant species grown in the mixed substrate had better photosynthetic physiological activity.
