EMOTIONAL AND EXPRESSIVE ANTHROPOCENTRIC VOCABULARY OF THE ODESSA REGION DIALECT: SOCIOLINGUISTIC ASPECT

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to find out how personal social parameters (age and gender) determine the expressive use of dialect vocabulary (including emotional and expressive nominations of person) and to determine the conditions under which literary speech dominates in choosing an alternative expression. The object of the study is an expressive and emotional Russian dialect vocabulary with the seme ’individual’. The subject of the study is stratification variability peculiarities of the use of emotional and expressive dialect vocabulary in the Russian Old Believer dialect in the village of Staraya Nekrasovka, Izmail district, Odessa region. The material for observations counts 460 expressive lexemes selected from the «Dictionary of Russian Dialects of the Odessa Region» (2000–2001). Direct observation and interviews as methods of sociolinguistic analysis, and descriptive and quantitative methods of linguistic research have been used in the work. The result of this study consists in defining the age and gender indicators and usage markers of the expressive and emotional dialect vocabulary in the Russian dialect of Staraya Nekrasovka. The findings can appear useful in the preparation of a new edition of the «Dictionary of Russian dialects of the Odessa region», in the preparation of other dialects dictionaries and in describing Russian dialects of every single village.
