Enancjomery: nowy problem w farmakoterapii depresji?

Abstract
Enancjomery jako optycznie czynne formy leków wywierają obecnie duży wpływ na większość obszarów farmakoterapii. Duże zainteresowanie budzą one w dziedzinie psychiatrii a szczególnie w leczeniu depresji. Jest to spowodowane faktem iż enancjomery (chiralne formy) wielu leków mogą charakteryzować się różnymi profilami farmakokinetycznymi, farmakologicznymi lub farmakogenetycznymi. Dlatego też w wielu przypadkach zastosowanie pojedynczego enancjomeru danego leku może mieć ogromną przewagę nad dotychczas stosowanymi formami i prowadzić do zdecydowanej poprawy obecnych metod leczenia. Przykładem jest stereoselektywna właściwość takiego leku psychotropowego jak fluoksetyna należąca do grupy selektywnych inhibitorów wychwytu zwrotnego serotoniny (SSRI).
