"Enthusiasm in Research" and "Apathy in Industry": Reflections on the Implementation of Medical Ethics in Healthcare Practices

Journal Title: Medicine and Philosophy - Year 2024, Vol 45, Issue 2

Abstract

Medical ethics is the foundation of medical humanities education, and the construction of the discipline in China has achieved both successes and shortcomings over the past 40 years. Currently, a focal point of concern is the implementation of medical ethics in healthcare practices. Starting from the hot issues in ethics field, this paper describes the phenomenon of a mixture of enthusiasm and apathy: the enthusiasm for applied ethics, research ethics, and medical ethics. The analysis suggests that the underlying reasons for this phenomenon may include insufficient ethical concepts and awareness, a disconnection between theory and practice, and inadequate depth and breadth in practical application. Based on this, the paper proposes a multi-level approach. At the level of knowledge, it is necessary to ensure multiple layers from top to bottom. At the level of practice, it is necessary to combine theory with practice and deepen internal transformation. The ultimate goal is to achieve a unity of knowledge and practice, thereby facilitating the effective implementation of medical ethics in healthcare.
