Abstract

Introduction. The ecological consequences of globalization and the related problems accumulated over many decades have now been solved in difficult political and economic conditions. The globalization of environmental problems forms new tasks for ensuring the mechanisms of adaptation of economic activity to the reproductive opportunities of the environment. The purpose of the article is to highlight the essence and components of the ecological and economic competitiveness of the region. Results. The ecological component has an important and special influence on separate branches of economic activity. The developed industries require more resources, attract investments, which allow magnification of production volumes, improve the quality of products, accelerate its implementation, etc. These industries "break out" in the competition for resources in many regions simultaneously. Environmental factors that have a decisive impact on the competitiveness of the region's economy are also duplicated in different territories. These features can be used to conduct a study of environmental and economic competitiveness as a relatively stable component of the system. The essence of the ecological and economic competitiveness of the region is described, which the author suggests to consider as a complex, dynamic, integrated system-forming property of the economic system taking into account the ecological features of the region, connected with the development of markets, branches of management, activation of innovation-investment processes and formation of ecological and economic competitive advantages. in the short and long term. The groups of components of ecological and economic competitiveness of the region are distinguished (I – geographical features of the region, II – assimilation potential, III – the capacity of the ecological system, IV – technological capacity of the economic system to create and use of ecological alternatives) and the classification of factors of influence on it is proposed. Conclusions. The directions of further research, which should be related to factors influencing the potential of ecological and economic competitiveness as a platform for regional development and formation of competitive advantages, are determined.
