ESTIMATION OF ANAEROBIC THRESHOLD IN CONDITIONSES OF LABORATORY - COMPARISON OF METHODS

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2006, Vol 22, Issue 5

Abstract

Background. In the estimation of effort tolerance more and more often the ability of its realization in the condition of anaerobic transformations is taken into consideration. The anaerobic threshold (AT) is most frequently defined as an ability to hold the highest effort intensities, at which the production of the lactic acid will be equal to its metabolism (3,5-4,0 mM/L).Material and methods. The research was carried out in 2003/04, on a group of 21 students from Academy of Physical Education, not actively practising sport, 20-27 years of age. The purpose of the effort provocation in the research was to achieve the threshold of anaerobic transformations by the examined. There was an interval effort applied with an ankle bone increase of charge (foot cycloergometer). Time of effort did not exceeded 20 min. Immediately after the end of it, the examined rested in a lying position. There were a constant registration of the heart rate frequency (HR [1/min]), gasometric and ventilating data (VO2 [L/min], VCO2 [L/min], Ve [L/min]) as well as post-effort concentrations of lactic acid in blood [mM/L] conducted before the effort, while its duration and for 30 minutes after its completion. The frequency of heart rate was registered by means of POLAR SportTester device. The ventilating and gasometric data was measured by means of portable MES Start 2000M ergogasometer. For marking the lactic acid concentration, the examined were taken blood from the earlobe in 3 minutes after the effort. The measurement was carried out by the LOX-PAP method, using Doctor Lange equipment.Results. The results of measured parameters achieved by the examined at end of the effort provocation, do not differ from those of other research [1,2,3,4,6]. Just in case of the comparison of methods: the analysis of respiratory quotient RQ (VCO2/VO2) and one of the ventilating threshold (Ve/VO2), the essential statistic difference during the AT attaining was obtained; the average data of the heart rate frequency, measured at the moment of AT attaining, in each method do not show statistical differences – the compared methods equally precisely enable us to specify the beginning of intensification of anaerobic transformations.Conclusions. The presented indirect methods of a estimation of attaining threshold of anaerobic transformations give similar results. The easiest method to apply is the one with the ventilating threshold; the most affordable one is the method of the analysis of the growth change of the heart rate frequency depending on the increase of charge.
