Ethnic Conflicts as a Threat to the Security of the Post-Soviet Area

Abstract

Concepts of national policy chosen by the state, with particular emphasis on the management processes of diaspora and national/ethnic minorities, have consequences on the post-Soviet area, especially in the area of national and international security, as well as, the economic, social, and demographic area, and even, civilization and cultural. For this reason, both the state and parties outside of state involved in the making of international policy in the region were forced many times to include diasporas and national and ethnic minorities in the scope of their interests. In contemporary ethnopolitical research, an important role is played by the analysis of the problems specific to regional groups: ethnic, national and religious, all with the difficulty to establish the problematic status and nationality of. Adoption of these issues is crucial for understanding the causes and consequences of the instability, both regional and global, exerting a destabilizing effect on the socio-economic and political order. In the case of post-Soviet countries in the region, particular attention should be given to the potential instability of the ethnopolitical control through the instrumentalization of diasporas in foreign policy. The inclusion of ethnopolitical arguments in interstate relations proves that the repositioning of ethno-politics in the catalog of factors build modern and effective soft power countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
