EUROPEAN PATENT OFFICE: FEATURES OF ACTIVITY

Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the legal basis of the activities of the European Patent Office as a method of intergovernmental cooperation on patent procedures. These procedures allow you to obtain a European patent valid in one, several or all of the Contracting States. The system of laws common to the Contracting States and the unified patent granting procedure are analyzed. The European Patent Office carries out the examination of applications for formal requirements, the preparation of reports on searches and their publication, as well as the examination of patent applications for compliance with the requirements for patentability in substance, namely novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability. Some organizational measures of the department’s activity are considered. The focus is on cooperation between the Ukrainian Patent Office and the European Office. A review of joint information and education activities has been conducted.
