EUROPEAN REFORMATION AND FOREIGN POLICY FEATURES OF THE CALVINIST THEORIES AND PRACTICES OF POLITICAL RESISTANCE: INSTITUTIONALIZATION AND DIPLOMATIC DISCOURSES

Abstract

The Calvinistic protest theories and the European reform practices on the example of concrete theologians (Jean Cal- vin, Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, Martin Bucer or Butzer and etc.) are explored at the article. Such a research approach allows us to determine the institutional features of the development of the reformist political thought of Europe in the 16th century as a whole, as well as determine the degree of its influence on the political and diplomatic processes in Europe, in particular Eastern Europe, and the later European secular political concepts. For the reformers, the biblical idea of the covenant had great political potential and remained relevant in a rapidly changing world. Reformation is one of the important periods of world history. This phenomenon always remains in the center of attention of those who are interested by the history of the Christian Church and its theological ideas. Reformation influenced various areas of life, contribut- ing not only to the revision of Christian doctrine itself and the renewal of Christian spirituality, but also to changing the structure of the Church and the moral criteria of society. Prospects for further research in this direction will provide an opportunity to recreate a holistic system picture of the political and diplomatic world and the national, religious characteristics of the Renaissance society and the individual Renaissance man in Europe in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Times as an institutional cluster of interstate relations. The study of the Calvinist protest theories and European reform practice on the example of ideological confrontations and concrete theologians makes it possible to determine the institutional features of the development of the reformist polit- ical thought of Europe in the sixteenth century as a whole, as well as to determine the degree of its influence on political and diplomatic processes in Europe, particularly in Eastern Europe, and on later European secular political concepts. For the reformers, the biblical idea of the covenant had great political potential and remained relevant in the rapidly changing European world.
