Abstract

Information Technology (IT) is one of the new technologies (such as computer) that by changing the teaching methods, leading the traditional concept of learning by memory to the creative and dynamic learning. The aim of this study was to determine the education performance based on the computer software (Excel, Power Point) and its impact on academic performance of environmental health students in the sewage and surface water collecting net course. The study was conducted semi experimental and statistical samples include a 17 person’s class as a test group and a 24 person’s class selected as a control group. How to put samples in the class was predetermined. For evaluating the effect of new method on academic performance the two groups score differences at the end of the both semester was taken as a criteria, and the performance of new method from the students point of view was determine by some questionnaire. The reliability and validity of the data was analyzed by t-test. The results showed that there is a significant difference between the mean scores of both group (P<0.05).the mean scores of test and control group at the end of the academic year respectively was 15.91±2.33 and 12.68±2.81. Generally 31% of students evaluated the performance of new method very good and 60% good and 9% of them evaluated it average. The results showed that the performance of education method based on the computer software in sewage and surface water collecting net was higher than the conventional method and it increased the academic performance of students.
