Journal Title: International Journal of Zoological Investigations - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 2

Abstract

This study was conducted on the habitat use pattern and body condition of wild animals in Social Forestry Division Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh during 2013-2015. The method consisted of collection of data from primary and secondary resources. Foot transects method and ad libitum sampling with a questionnaire was performed to evaluate the data about habitat use pattern by wild animals. The body condition of Chital, Blackbuck and Nilgai was evaluated. The wild herbivores used agricultural land, wetlands, non-protected forest, ponds, paddle etc. as their habitat use. The rhesus macaques were found using old buildings and house roofs as shelter and were observed obtaining considerable portion of food from solid wastes generated by humans or by snatching the edible items. It was observed they were less dependent on their natural food and agriculture crops. The body condition was observed in three season viz. rain, winter and summer. Most of the wild animals were found in good body condition during rainy season (47.85%), followed by winter season (36.46%) and summer (27.85%). Likewise, animals in poor body condition exhibited maximum percentage during summer (32.77%), followed by winter (28.77%) and minimum animals in poor body condition during rainy season (15.23%).
