Evaluation of properties of plywood glued with composite adhesive based on waste paper, PEG and PF resin

Abstract

Evaluation of properties of plywood glued with composite adhesive based on waste paper, PEG and PF resin. The study developed a method for manufacturing a new adhesive mixture involving different amounts of an industrial PF resin and a biocomposite adhesive based on waste paper and PEG 600. During the research, formulations and basic properties of the mixtures were determined, and then the mixtures were used to produce experimental plywood, for which the bonding quality was determined using tests required by PN-EN 314-2. The study showed that an increase in PF resin substitution rate resulted in reduction in its reactivity and pH. At 40% substitution, the gel time and pH of the adhesive mixture did not differ significantly from values determined for the pure PF resin. The results of bonding quality tests for the experimental plywood showed that plywoods glued with the adhesive mixture containing 30% of the biocomposite adhesive fully met requirements for the shear strength specified in PN-EN 314-2.
