Evaluation of Social Work Students Attitudes Towards the Disadvantaged/ at Risk Elderly

Abstract
When people get older, they fall into a disadvantaged situation and may encounter various problems due to this situation. The elderly constitute a focal point for the social work discipline and various practices are recommended and developed for the health, shelter, protection, social relations, economic situation and well-being of the elderly. The aim of this study, which is a quantitative research, is to determine the interests, attitudes and perspectives of students receiving social work education towards elderly people. Scales for attitudes towards and care for the elderly have been developed. Frequency, t-test, anova, chi-square test and regression analysis were used to evaluate the obtained data. As a result of the analysis, the interest of social service students towards the elderly was determined at high levels, their attitudes towards the elderly were determined positively and it was determined that the elderly people staying in institutional care were also welcomed. In the study, it was found that factors such as the student's age, family income, gender and the type of family in which he lived were among the main determinants of social work students ' attitudes towards older people.
