EVALUATION OF THE GROWTH AND PRODUCTION OF VIGNA UNGUICULATA SEEDS
Journal Title: Innova Biology Sciences - Year 2021, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
The Vigna unguiculata or commonly called cowpea bean is a legume of the Fabaceae family and an important crop, capable of guaranteeing the food and nutritional security of millions of people in developing countries. The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth and seed production of Vigna unguiculata by applying five different concentrations of detergent. For this, detergent concentrations were prepared at 0 ppm, 2000 ppm, 3000 ppm, 5000 ppm and a treatment of 2000 ppm from laundry washing. Given the different concentrations of detergent with which the plants were watered, they showed uneven growth. As a result of this study, it was observed that the highest average height obtained was 35.1 cm with concentrations "A" and "E", while the lowest average height was achieved in the plants irrigated with concentration "C", with 25.2 cm. In addition, it was observed that concentrations "A" and "D" produced the largest number of seeds, while concentration "C" produced the least number of seeds with 251 in total, for a total of 2449 seeds. It was concluded that the growth of the plants does not present considerable effects when using water with detergent at low concentrations, even if it has been previously used in other activities; however, significant deleterious effects are seen if the concentration of while concentration "C" produced the least amount of seeds with 251 in total, for a total of 2449 seeds. It was concluded that the growth of the plants does not present considerable effects when using water with detergent at low concentrations, even if it has been previously used in other activities; however, significant deleterious effects are seen if the concentration of detergent is high.
