Abstract

Since ancient time, the flute has undergone development and change in many aspects such as structure, material, mechanism, tone and technique. In ancient times, the flute was an instrument with one or two holes made of carved animal bones and Wood pieces, but over time, it gained a different appearance with the content of Theobald Boehm, wich was developed and rich, and it has its own options. Today, while wood can still be used in flute making, materials such as nickel, silver and gold are mainly used and can also be used as open hole or closed hole curtains according to the user's preference. This study aims to examine and reveal the structural and musical differences of open/closed fret flutes, wich have been the subject of discussion for many years in terms of their advantages. This research is a descriptive study and “Case Study”, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The data obtained from the survey results were tabulated and supported by the data obtained by the “document review” and “interview” tools. According to the results obtained in the light of the findings, some suggestions were made to flute users and educators.
