Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2024, Vol 27, Issue 3
Abstract
Online education has expanded globally in secondary schools, offering flexibility, affordability, and access to diverse courses. This study aimed to explore the experiences, motivations, challenges, and suggestions of international online Filipino students regarding educational support services. A narrative inquiry approach was employed, interviewing seven international Filipino online learners residing in various countries. The study utilized the 3-dimensional space approach to craft the re-storying of the participants’ narratives. Thematic analysis uncovered emergent themes in participants' experiences with educational support services, providing a deep understanding of their online learning journeys. A total of twelve themes encapsulated the many-sided nature of online learning experiences. The participants shared diverse narratives, revealing personal motivations for choosing online learning and their experiences with educational services. They appreciated the accessibility of online resources but faced challenges such as difficulties in the learning environment and motivational obstacles. Valuable recommendations were provided, emphasizing personalized assistance and flexible scheduling. Ongoing adaptation and innovation of online platforms were deemed crucial to meeting students' evolving needs. Understanding the narratives of international online Filipino students and addressing their recommendations could create more inclusive and effective online learning environments. This study contributes insights into online education, informing the development of tailored support mechanisms for diverse student populations. By addressing the unique experiences and needs of international online Filipino students, educators and policymakers could enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of online learning platforms on a global scale.
