FACTORS AFFECTING THE OPERATING PARAMETERS OF PYROTECHNIC DELAY DEVICES

Abstract

The paper analyses information available in literature on factors influencing the parameters of pyrotechnic delay devices (PDD). The literature includes research and development reports of mostly foreign origin. The main component of PDDs is a pyrotechnic delay charge (PDC) which may consist of one or more pyrotechnic delay mixtures (PDM). The use of appropriate PDM and maintaining its required parameters during service life decides about its usefulness for the ordnance. The paper describes the factors affecting the operation of PDDs. These factors are divided into internal ones, closely related to the structure of PDDs, and external ones. Described factors affecting the operation of PDDs were additionally illustrated by test results. Collected information can be useful for people involved in designing and testing the PDDs.<br/><br/>
