Journal Title: Journal of the Human and Social Science Researches - Year 2016, Vol 5, Issue 7
Abstract
The smallest unit of the society is apparently family institution. At the same time, it is defined as the unit that transformed co-habitation into to an institution when humans started cohabiting together. Since families assume certain functions while establishing the foundation of societies, they come across certain problems within themselves. Accordingly, with the transformation from the traditional society to modern society, the change and transformations observed in the social values have also affected the family institution and as a result, new concepts and new life styles have emerged regarding the familial affairs. These transformations have caused domestic affairs to deteriorate and communication conflicts to occur. The concept of family union and marriage structure to change, communication problems between spouses, drug addictions observed in family members, problems arising as a result of the parents getting old, the problems caused by the lack of communication between parents and children are some of the main driving forces behind the emergence of family counselling aimed at resolving these issues. In this study, the historical development and structure of family counselling application aiming to resolve problems emerging as a result of social transformation caused by modernization will be examined.
