FIRST STORY OF NEW UKRAINIAN WRITING: THE PROBLEM OF UKRAINIAN-RRUSSIAN LITERARY RELATIONS

Abstract
The theme of the article: M. Petrov work analysis «Essays on the History of Ukrainian Literature XIX Century» (1884) from the perspective of the Modern Comparative Literature. Subject of investigation – features of using of the comparative method in the works of M. Petrov to study the Ukrainian-Russian literary relations, the originality of his scientific thinking. Purpose of the article – to analyze important aspect of the work of M. Petrov: it was one of the first attempts to consider the his-tory of Ukrainian literature through the prism of Ukrainian-Russian literary relations, which confirmed that in the second half of the nineteenth century was the ingredient Comparative Literature of the national literary history. The paper used systematic, comparative, receptive, analytical and descriptive methods. Scientific novelty article is related to insufficient study of Petrov’s heritage the need for its revision to the requirements of mod-ern literature. For the first time «Essays on the History of Ukrainian Literature» regarded as Comparative work. The results of the article can be used for these studies Ukrainian-Russian literary relations, to study international relations liter-ature, history of Ukrainian literature and comparative studies. The conclusions states that, despite the one-sided view of history of Ukrainian literature literature only as the sum of borrowings and influences in Russian literature, the work of M. Petrov became the impetus for targeted studies of Ukrainian-Russian literary contacts. Numerous domestic borrowing in writing, which have a literary, not downplayed its importance, but rather created a wider understanding of the authentic history than national approach is limited. The work shows that Ukrainian-Russian relations – a com-plex literary, cultural and historical problem.
