Food crises and international aid Between humanitarian considerations and geostrategic calculations

Journal Title: مجلة البشائر الاقتصادية - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 2

Abstract

The world has been living in the summer of 2008, a serious escalation of the food crisis that began in 2007, and several countries have found themselves on the brink of collapse: the dramatic rise in food prices has pushed hundreds thousands of protesters, from Marrakech to New Delhi and from Madrid to Dar es Salaam, to invade the streets and claim their right to food. An alarming situation that the international community, despite what it has done in the past and what it is trying to accomplish in the present, has not been able to avoid, which presages a repetition of the 1972/74 scenario . In this rather delicate context, the international community organized in Rome a third summit on food, a summit meeting attended by both the world's great and the less fortunate to discuss a phenomenon that is not limited to borders and nationalities, and all have realized that short-term measures are not enough to solve the problem and that food and all that revolves around, is not only a matter of yields or production, but is packaged by a set of elements and requires for its improvement, efforts at various levels. From there, this article will aim to present the situation of hunger in the world; he will also discuss the main factors that have been the cause of the food crises of the last decades, and finally, he will look at world food aid and the egoism, if not the hypocrisy, that permeates it.
