FOREIGN TRADE OF THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR – THE SOURCE OF FOREIGN INVESTMENT

Abstract
Introduction. Realities of modern tendencies of world agricultural markets determine the priority in shaping the strategy regarding foreign and economic activity of agribusiness. After all, it will improve the competitiveness of agricultural products in international markets, forming an effective structure of export and import, as a result – to attract foreign investment into the country's agriculture on mutually beneficial terms. Purpose. The aim of this article is analysis of export and import of agricultural products, search of the major markets for Ukrainian agricultural products; determination of the main problems that hindering foreign investment into the agricultural sector of the economy of the country. Methods. The use of economic and statistical methods for analysing the current state of the export and import of agricultural products for the period 2010 – 2014 years is proposed in the article. Results. Results of the study demonstrate the positive dynamics of foreign exchange receipts of agricultural producers. The value of agricultural import into Ukraine is increased. In recent years there is a tendency to changes in the geographical structure of foreign trade: foreign trade turnover with CIS countries is reduced, thus the role of European countries is significantly increased. The raw material orientation of the Ukrainian export makes positions of Ukraine in the external markets more vulnerable, because the demand for commodities is unstable and characterized by significant price changeability. The low efficiency of agricultural production leads to technical and technological backwardness of agriculture; agricultural producers do not have enough modern agricultural techniques, improved system of crediting. Creating export and oriented agro-industrial production requires a clear definition of competitive domestic products and agricultural enterprises that are able to lead the country out of the crisis and pave the way for the world markets. Discussion. The obtained results during the study can be used in the practice of agricultural producers, authorities to identify the main components of strategies for the development of foreign and trade activity in the agricultural sector of economy.
