Abstract
The paper deals with the formation of active, passive and potential vocabulary of students-philologists. The study revealed the system of work over the word, understanding it in the contet, realization of lexical meanings of shades by students, contributes to the enrichment of vocabulary, theoretical knowledge of word and practical skills to use different kinds of language. Perception and memorizing of lexical items takes place on the basis of association. At the stage of acquaintance with new vocabulary it is important to choose a communicative orientation, which promotes the use of words in speech and formation of positive motivation of mastering new lexical items. Associative processes should be at the heart of communicative orientation that contribute to involuntary memorization of words. The typology of vocabulary sets the types of words in terms of the difculties they cause for learning. This approach allows the system to determine the work of each group of words lexical minimum, taking into account their compleity. Eight types of lexical units have been identied. Categories of exercises aimed at memorizing the words have been defined. Various methods of word formation have been considered with the help of which a potential student’s vocabulary is formed. The theoretical value of the work is generalization and systematization of methodological knowledge on this issue. The practical value is the development of methodological recommendations on learning lexical material. The prospect of further research we see in a systematic enrichment of the vocabulary of students in the implementation of interdisciplinary connections with other academic disciplines to ensure the process of deep assimilation of a word in all its forms.
