FORMATION OF PROFESSIONAL ETHICS OF FUTURE TEACHERS: COMPETENCY APPROACH

Abstract

The article speaks about the ways to help future teachers develop their ability to use competency approach to teaching elementary school students. Professional ethics is a complex versatile process of developing professional qualities of teachers, their theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Competency approach to teaching and learning process helps new teachers develop their professionalism. Nowadays, in order to assess the quality of the teaching process, the following competency areas have been identified: educational, social, general educational, general cultural, civic, entrepreneurial, health, information technologies competencies, etc. Comparative analysis of the terms «competence» and «компетентність» that mean «competency» in English proves that both terms have the same root, which means integration of motivation, theoretical knowledge and practical skills into the teaching and learning process. The term «competency «competence» includes excellent knowledge and skills and might mean that new teachers’ are ready to practice the profession. The term «competency компетентність» means that based on the acquired level of knowledge and experience, new teachers are prepared to operate successfully in the field, using different types of teaching activities. That is why; the competency approach is considered a factor of successful implementation of the teacher’s intellectual, professional, moral, and social potentials.
