PATRIOTISM AS A SOCIAL AND PERSONAL VALUE (HISTORICAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL ASPECT

Abstract
The national patriotic education is claimed as one of the most important branch of national education according to the “Strategy of National Patriotic Education of Children and Youth for 2016-2020” which was approved by the president of Ukraine. This article considers problems of the national patriotic upbringing to include the history and philosophical considerations. A main focus of the article is the development of the national identity through understanding of Ukraine’s history, values, morals, and culture. Another focus within the article is Cossack history and cultural heritage of outstanding Ukrainians of the past. Consistently through the article there are themes of national and human values, equality of democratic freedoms, common interests of all Ukrainian ethnic groups and the development of a tolerant society. The article also considers the necessity to spread the information about the heroic deeds by Ukrainian patriots who formed a civil collective protest, known as Maidan and the Revolution of Dignity, which is a key issue in the political situation and threat of Russian intervention.
