RELEVANCE OF LABOUR EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AT VASYL BILAVYCH’S EXPERIMENTAL SCHOOL

Abstract

The article describes V. Bilavych’s innovative practices, using the system of personality formation through labour at Seredniy Bereziv secondary school (Kosiv raion, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast) as an example. The objective of the article is to characterize the innovative pedagogical practices of Vasyl Ivanovych Bilavych in the field of personality formation through labour for their subsequent use by teachers at contemporary general schools. The author analyzes today’s interpretation of the ‘alternative school’ concept and decisively characterizes V. Bilavych’s work as innovative, and the school he created as an alternative school. The author highlights such aspects of the school operation as teaching and research work, polytechnic training, and out-of-school, extracurricular personality formation work. The innovative pedagogical practices that actively developed in 1970s and 1980s have served as methodological basis for this research. Thus, many years of an alternative educational and production site operation have proven that accumulation of facilities and resources creates a favourable setting for proper realization of education curricula, achieving goals of personality formation through labour and career guidance for students of different ages, and the organization of productive and community work and extracurricular activities.
