FORMATION OF STUDENT YOUTH ECOLOGICAL CULTURE BY MASS MEDIA

Abstract
The paper is devoted to the problem of modern peculiarities of development of student youth ecological culture by mass media. In modern Ukrainian society the importance of ecological culture of graduates is determined by the rele- vance its part in their general and professional competencies. Professional education in universities provides the cultural, social, moral and professional development of students that includes the increasing of the general level of culture, in particularly the level of ecological culture. The object of the study is the formation of ecological culture of university students. The purpose of the article is to examine the role and impact of mass media on the development of student youth ecological culture. A complex of theoret- ical and empirical methods has been used, for example: analysis, synthesis, systematisation of existing scientific papers for studying the issues of mass media impact on ecological culture of university students, questionnaire. Ecological culture is seen as a result of human environmental education and a measure of individual environmen- tal competence. It is a lot more than knowledge about the environment. It is a number of skills to solve environmental problems and to make responsible decisions for environment protection. So, ecological culture of university students is considered as a certain level of social and personal development, creative powers and abilities, expressed in forms of human values, which is characterized by a general awareness of ecological issues and includes the careful use of natural resources on the basis of knowledge of the biosphere laws. Today mass media is the most fundamental element of modern society. It is a vital part of human existence and helps peo- ple all over the world to communicate, interact and collaborate with each other. Knowledge, experience, cultural values are shared by mass media. The new theory assumes that media reflects and creates the culture, in particularly ecological culture. Therefore, nowadays the formation and development of university students’ ecological culture by means of mass media is rel- evant. Mass media supports environmental information and education; forms knowledge and understanding of the problems of environment, motivate to participate in activities that lead to the resolution of the environmental challenges and others. The research results have shown that mass media is an effective factor of formation and development of the ecological culture of student youth.
