FORMATION OF TRYPILLYA COLLECTION OF LVIV HISTORICAL MUSEUM

Abstract

Collection of Trypillya culture of Lviv Historical Museum includes more than 6000 artefacts. It was complemented by transferring of materials from other institutions, as well as through field researches carried out by scientists of the museum. The largest part of the collection (almost 1200 artefacts) consists of the materials, obtained during archaeological researches conducted near Koshylivtsi, Zalischyky district, Ternopil region. Collection was transferred in 1940 from the Museum of Dzieduszycki. The second largest group (1100 artefacts) includes materials from the settlement near Horodnytsia, Horodenka district, Ivano-Frankivsk region. The collection was originally stored in the Museum of Dzieduszycki, then in the City Museum of Antiquities of Chervenska land. In 1940 it was transferred to the Lviv Historical Museum. Collection of finds of the same quantity comes from Nezvysko, Gorodenka district, Ivano-Frankivsk region. These materials were stored at the University of Lviv and in the City Museum of Antiquities of Chervenska land. In 1940 they were transferred to the Lviv Historical Museum. Almost 900 finds originate from the site near Zalischyky, Ternopil region. They were transferred to Lviv Historical Museum in 1940 from the Museum of Shevchenko Scientific Society and from the Institute of Social Sciences (now Ivan Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) in 1950. In 1952 Trypillya collection was complemented by researchers of the Department of prehistoric society (department of archaeology of Lviv Historical Museum was called in this way then) I. Sveshnikov, V. Savych, G. Vlasova. They conducted field surveys in Ternopil region near Bilche-Zolote, Glubichka, Fedorivka, Yablunivka. The last complex of materials appeared in 1988, when the scientist of Lviv Historical Museum, I. Myhalchyshyn, researched Trypillya settlement near Glynyany, Zolochiv district.
