FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF MOUTH DISSOLVING TABLET OF ISOSORBIDE MONONITRATE

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Pharmacy (IRJP) - Year 2011, Vol 2, Issue 3

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to formulate and evaluate the mouth dissolving tablets of isosorbide mononitrate. Drug delivery systems are becoming more complex as pharmaceutical scientist acquires better understanding of the physicochemical and biochemical parameters pertinent to their performance. Over the last decade, the demand of fast disintegrating tablet has been growing mainly for geriatric and pediatric patients, because of swallowing difficulties, the characteristics of fast disintegrating tablet for potential emergency treatment. The superdisintegrant used in this study was crospovidone. The tablets were evaluated for weight variation, hardness, friability, wetting time, water absorption ratio, and disintegration time and dissolution study. The tablets were prepared by direct compression method.
