Formulation and evaluation of sustained release tablets of Zidovudine by using hibiscus as a natural polymer
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Research in Pharmacy and Biotechnology - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
The present work is aimed at preparing and evaluating Sustained-release (SR) matrix tablets of Zidovudine tablet using different polymers. Systematic studies were conducted using different concentration of rate releasing polymers like HPMC grades and natural polymer like Hibiscus for extending the drug release up to 24 hrs. The tablets were evaluated for preformulation studies like angle of repose, bulk density, compressibility index and physical characteristics like hardness, weight variation, friability and drug content and in-vitro studies were performed. Among all the formulations (F1-F11), it was observed that formulation- 9 has shown better dissolution profile. So Formulation-9 was found to be the best formulation when compared with other prepared formulations.
