Abstract
The aim of the article is to present the main features of the desired model for a modern higher education institution, especially in terms of creating innovations as well as transferring technologies to the economy. Therefore, an alteration is required within the income framework of Polish institutions of higher education and at least partial income independence from didactic activity profits. To achieve the aim, the authors exploited the current literature, including documents, reports as well as draft laws regulating the functioning of institutions of higher education.
