FROM HISTORY OF LITERARY ONOMASTICS DEVELOPMENT

Abstract
Onym of the literary text is a special philological problem in a literary work as a proper name is an important organic element and its stylistic system, performing an active role in creating the overall imagery work. The study of the proper name functioning in modern fiction is important because it fits into the overall perspective of a young field of linguistics and because lingua-poetics helps reveal specific features of artistic and literary language. The purpose of the article is to describe the background scientific study of literary onomastics of antiquity. The study of proper names and their expressive possibilities originates from the time when the ancient philosophers regarded names in terms of their semantics and methods of use. The main achievement of the ancient period was the formation of opinions about the natural connection between the name and the subject. Subsequently, the poetic possibilities of proper names are placed in folklore, where the names acquire generalizing function and evaluation skills. With the advent of writing and literature the focus on mythological, religious and social spheres has been moved into the realm of fiction, with emphasis on stylistic aspects of the onym. During the Renaissance the emerging idea appeared that the names are signs of our ideas, and not signs of things themselves. Over time, the research was divided into two approaches in the study of the onym. The first united scientists used onym as a historical source, the second united scientists, linguists used onym in studies of the history of language. In the second half of the twentieth century a new line of research was formed on the proper name material in a literary text that appears on the verge of onomastics and stylistics, poetics, text linguistics, linguistic semantics, semiotics. It launched the term „literary onomastics” to refer to a special section of onomastics, closely related to problems of literature, theory of genres, the general trends of the era’s cultural life and so on. For a long time researchers have been interested in onomastics poetry as an applied discipline that is used to publish different comments on literary texts in compiling dictionaries of proper names in fiction. At present poetic onomastics is considered as being an independent scientific discipline with its own object of study and methods of analysis. Development of the name semantics in the literary texts appears in the transformation of its semantic structure. Poetonyms operate in specific literary texts following the author’s intention to implement the ideological and esthetic and other tasks that suggests that they update the stylistic features on the content level. Consequently, the use of expressive properties of proper names in literary works with the development of the science of language led to the need to conceptualize the use of onyms in works of art. Therefore there were first rhetorical recommendations, and then scientific evaluation appeared. This process went on continuously, and led eventually to the need for a special theory of poetic onym.
