FUNCTIONS OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN TEXTS OF FOREIGN UKRAINIAN JOURNALISM

Abstract
The article describes peculiarities of functioning of phraseological units in texts of foreign Ukrainian journalism of the second half of the XXth century. “Modernity. Literature, Arts, Social Life” Ukrainian journal has been chosen as the source of the research. The task of the research is to discover some peculiarities of functions of phraseological units in journalistic discourse. The result of analysis has shown the main procedures of functioning of phraseological units, their text-creating functions has been characterized, authors’ affirmation for rethinking and evaluative reaccentuation of official Soviet phraseology have been analyzed. It has been discovered that set expressions of nonexpressive nature in ideologically coloured contexts may acquire emotional and expressive colourings and, thus, become signs of a great generalizing power. The specific nature of transformations of phraseological units, their structural and sense conceptualization, causing creation of ideologemes, which are new forms for critical estimation of basic ideological notions of Soviet reality. Productive usage of phraseological units is complicated with other means, which in their interaction are an important way of running political polemics. Peculiarities of using precedent texts as means of ridiculing political realia of Soviet way of life have been characterized. Cases of occasional word creation have been found, which arise due to transformations of set phrases. The language material under consideration fully shows the importance of phraseological units for journalistic texts of Ukrainian foreign journalism. Phraseological units are used in texts as an important means of their estimation and expressive intonement, impactful language factor of expressing ideologic valuations and authors’ intentions.
