Materials and Methods: The present study is a cross sectional observational study, undertaken in the department of pathology, S. S. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (SSIMS and RC), Davangere, over a period of two years from July 2015 to June 2017. Gastric mucosa for the study was obtained from patients attending surgical or medical outpatient department of SSIMS and RC Hospital, who consented for endoscopic evaluation and gastric mucosal biopsy. Results: Mean age of 46.15 years. 66 (68.7%) biopsies were from males (M) and 30 (31.3%) were from females (F), with M:F ratio 2.2:1. Majority of the patients i.e. 82.3% complained of nausea. Hyperemia was seen in 33.3% of biopsies followed by mucosal erosions in 15.6% and paving stones in 13.5% cases. 86 (89.6%) biopsies showed features of gastritis. Conclusion: This study emphasized that H. pylori infection is one of the major cause for chronic gastritis. Hyperemia and mucosal erosions are commonest findings on endoscopy.
