Abstract

Gender, determines women's and men's social roles and responsibilities in society. Society identifies the roles and also aspects of the roles of male and female need to carry. The role and its characteristics are known by every member of the society. Considering the relationship between "Gender" and "Technology", women who are seen as keepers in-house production process, are the largest group that use domestic technology mostly. The studies regarding domestic technologies conducted by Cockburn (1997, 1998) and Wajcman (1991a, 1991b) emphasized that domestic technology supports traditional gender roles between spouses. The chores undertaken by males, are usually non-regular, non-continuous based and mostly carry out outside the home. Husbands describe his relationships with domestic technology as helping their wives which means domestic technology used more by women. In other words, the gender context is unthinkable that contributes to the gender equality in the use of domestic technology.
