GENDER GAP IN LITERACY RATE IN MATHURA DISTRICT U.P. A GEOGRAPHICAL STUDY

Abstract
Education is an important avenue for upgrading the economic and social conditions of the women. An attempt has been made in the paper to analyze literacy rate and gender gap in literacy rate in Mathura district. This study based upon the secondary sources of data and block has been taken as unit of study. The findings suggest that the there is undoubtedly significant difference between male and female literacy rate in Mathura district. This gap existed at all level but at village level it’s even higher than the female rural literary rate in the district.
