Abstract
The investigation of Max Kidruk’s novels «Bot» and «Bot: Guayaquil Paradox» confirmed the hypothesis about the definition of their genre as tehnothriller with the features of science fiction as the part of its metagenre paradigm. It was investigated that the tehnothriller was the genre close to the «soft», or social, science fiction and to the occupational novel. There is no exact convention-al definition of the tehnothriller in scientific literature, so the first part of the researched was focused on the finding of the genre constants of this kind of literary form. The second part of the research dealt with the author’s interpretation of tehnothriller genre constants such as thematic and problematic peculiarities, particularly the problem of scientist’s moral responsibility, the conflict, the dynamic of novels’ plot and the narrative, the types of characters and the science fictional component (the problem of Artificial Intel-ligence). It was determined that the specific of Kidruk’s novels was in the combining of the features of popular and elite literature, especially in intensive plot and shocking erotic and «bloody» scenes, exotic atmosphere on the one hand and complicated scientific base and important moral and ethical problematic on the other hand. Some narrative tactics (the changing of focalization and the «spoilers») and the features of popular literature like stylistic clichés and using of swearing were investigated. In the article we also sporadically attempted to research the connection between the influence of popular culture and the stylistic flaws of the analysed novels, to indicate the relation between the specific of topographic representation of their problematic and the contemporary condi-tion of the science and technology in Ukraine.
