Geological model for porphyry-type hydrocarbon reservoirs<br /> of the Liaohe oil field<br />

Abstract
Hydrocarbon reservoirs in the Oulituozi area of the Liaohe basin, northeastern China, occur within a hypabyssal-ultra-hypabyssal trachyte porphyry intrusion. Resembling the metal-hosting fractures in porphyry-type metal deposits, the hydrocarbon-trapping fractures are dominated by cryptoexplosive breccias and other primary fractures. Therefore, this type of hydrocarbon reservoirs can be termed the porphyry-type. Based upon a synthesis of all the hydrocarbon reservoirs relevant to hypabyssal-ultra-hypabyssal porphyries (porphyrites) in the Bohai Bay region, a geological model has been established for the porphyry-type hydrocarbon reservoirs. This model includes six types of reservoirs controlled, respectively, by doming-induced fractures above the intrusion, cryptoexplosive breccias, other primary fractures and altered fracture zones inside the intrusion, contact metamorphic zones adjacent to the intrusion, and by lateral sealing of the intrusion. These types of reservoirs could coexist with porphyry intrusions at either an intrusion scale or a regional scale, and should be paid much attention during exploration.
