Growth and Development of Sports Lawn Seeds in Response to Different Concentrations of Silicon

Abstract

This research was carried out to investigate this issue at Pakdasht, Tehran, Iran. The experiment was conducted as a factorial experiment based in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 8 treatment and 4 replications. Sports lawn seeds (26% Lolium perenne, 29% Lolium perenne, 35% Poa pratensis and 10% Festuca rubra) were planted in pot and subjected to four different regimes of drought 0, 25, 50 and 75 percent field capacity and Si (Si) in levels 150, 300 and 400 gm-2. Shoot height, root length, root and shoot fresh and dry weight and chlorophyll content were decreased with increasing drought period and proline content and ion leakage increased with increasing drought period. Results showed that application of Si could decrease drought stress symptom on lawn.
