Journal Title: Archivum Anatolicum-Anadolu Arsivleri - Year 2017, Vol 11, Issue 2

Abstract

Güray Museum put into service thanks to the enterprises of Güray Tüysüz is the first underground museum in the world. This unique structure was built carving the rocks in 7 years between 2009 and 2015. The museum is approximately 20 m. underground and it has been an area of 1600 m2. Güray Museum, opened in April 2015, hosts many domestic and foreign visitors all year round. There are two tablets written in the Old Assyrian cuneiform script in the museum where important works of Anatolian archaeology are exhibited. One of the documents (G.M. 301) provided to the museum collection through the purchase is dated B.C. 1809 and related to a payment made. The names of native and Assyrian people are recorded in this tablet contemporary with Kültepe lb layer. In the other tablet (G.M. 330), the payments made by different people for some parts of an animal (hide, chest, neck, shoulder) are exhibited. The document is remarkable both due to the fact that it involves the words firstly or rarely mentioned in Old Assyrian texts and due to its content.
