HABITATS WITH CONSERVATION SIGNIFICANCE AND PSAMMOPHILOUS PLANT ASSOCIATIONS FROM SULINA BEACH (DANUBE DELTA BIOSPHERE RESERVE)
Journal Title: Analele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Alexandru Ioan Cuza din Iasi, Serie noua, Sectiunea II a. Biologie vegetala - Year 2013, Vol 59, Issue 2
Abstract
Floristic and phytocenologic observations have been carried out on the sand dunes of Sulina beach, north to Busurca Channel, between years 2011 and 2013. Older observations (2009) south of Busurca Channel asserted the existence of plant communities similar from the floristic and structural standpoint to those located north of the channel. Four habitats with conservation significance in accordance with Directive 92/43/EEC (habitats 1210, 2110, 2130*, 2160) and ten plant associations were studied on the sandybeach of Sulina. Large local populations of some rare plant species at national level have been observed within dune habitats and nearby: Convolvulus persicus, Cakile maritima subsp. euxina, Eryngium maritimum, Argusia sibirica, Scolymus hispanicus, Petasites spurius. The sand dunes habitats have in generally a favorable conservation status, less so in the sector dedicated to recreational activities where it is inadequate in the case of habitats 1210 and 2160 due to the partial removal of vegetation, to camping and to the seasonal summer activities. The psammophilous habitats of Sulina beach have a good quality and moderates anthropogenic presures. The main risk factors which threaten the dune typical species and plant communities are in principal anthropogenic: beach touristic facilities, grazing and penetration of invasive plant species. Some high conservative importance plant associations (Cakilo euxinae - Salsoletum ruthenicae Vicherek 1971, Convolvuletum persici (Borza 1931) Burduja 1968, Calamagrostio epigei - Hippophaetum rhamnoidis Popescu et al., 1986) and a new subassociation (Elymetum gigantei Morariu 1957subass. eryngietosum maritimae subass. nova) have been described in the paper.
