Healthcare: an Outlook from the Capitalism – Capital – Health Perspective

Abstract
Poland’s political and economic system transformation that took off in 1989 involved not only industry sectors but also other domains that used to be government-controlled under socialist state ownership, such as healthcare and education. Just like social change is associated with economy, health is intrinsically linked to economy through the notion of capital. In economics, health is perceived as a resource or capital governed by market mechanisms, including primarily the interplay of demand and supply. Health capital is therefore seen as part of human capital that, in turn, makes up social capital. The paper addresses the relationships among the triad of capitalism, capital and health, as well as their effects on the country’s healthcare system.
