HEAVY METALS (Pb, Cu) IN SOIL FROM URBANIZED AREA AT THE COMMUNICATION ROUTE – Part 1

Journal Title: Structure and Environment - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue 4

Abstract

The paper presents the results of studying the content of heavy metals (lead and copper) in the urbanized land located on the campus of the Kielce University of Technology. The aim of the study was to determine the concentration of total forms of lead and copper and to examine how the vegetation can reduce their concentration in the soil. Based on the studies conducted, it was found that the contamination of the investigated land with selected metals is low. The highest contamination was caused by lead in areas with the increased car traffic, exceeding the limit of 12%, the copper content was 55% of the limit concentration. Laboratory studies have shown that planting plants with phytoremediation capacity around the tested area has a significant effect on the reduction of heavy metals in the soil.
