HERITAGE AT RISK: A CASE STUDY OF DETERIORATION IN THE HISTORICAL CENTER OF LIMA

Abstract
This research has the objective of finding the reason for the building deterioration of the Historic Center of Lima. For its fulfillment, the analysis of three research variables is proposed, which revolve around the real estate, deterioration and conservation. From this development and the description of these aspects, these will be contrasted with the reality of the heritage area. The research methodology is qualitative, and focuses on an exploratory approach and a descriptive scope. In this way it will be possible to analyze the patrimonial degradation and the implications for the patrimony. built and for the inhabitants of the monumental area. Thus, the postulate is reached that the heritage area is in a process of deterioration, that the actions undertaken for its recovery are not sufficient and that a true sustainable process has not yet been found. This entails the irremediable disappearance of a whole set of cultural values. Finally, we reflect on the meaning that the inhabitant has as an agent of recovery, understanding that, if he persists in a model of forgetting his needs, the monumental area will continue to deteriorate without the possibility of reversing the process.
