Historia karmienia piersią

Abstract
W pracy zaprezentowano problematykę karmienia piersią w ujęciu historycznym ze szczególnym omówieniem instytucji mamki - kobiety karmiącej piersią dziecko innej matki. Już w czasach starożytności podkreślano, że mleko matki jest najlepszym pożywieniem dla dziecka i jedyną alternatywą pozwalającą na przeżycie dziecka. Przez wieki kobiety karmiące piersią dziecko innej kobiety były często jedyną szansą na przeżycie dla dziecka. Obowiązujące w starożytnych kulturach przekonania i reguły związane z karmieniem piersią zostały w dużym stopniu przejęte przez nowożytne społeczeństwa. Z biegiem czasu, poznając szczegółowy skład mleka ludzkiego, coraz częściej udowadniano jego unikalność. Najnowsze badania składu mleka kobiecego dostarczają nowych dowodów świadczących o cennym i bogatym w składniki odżywcze pokarmie matki, a rolę współczesnych „mamek” przejmują kobiety – dawczynie mleka do banku mleka kobiecego.
